Mediterrean diet you say? It’s Mediterranean diet. The diet is already a hot topic among not only dieters but also people who want to live healthily according to Mediterranean diet. Inspired by how Mediterranean people eat, an American doctor established a diet program based on it in 1940. However, it was not really a big hit back then. It started gaining popularity in 1990’s when doctors started to recommend the diet to people who have tried to lose weight but failed.

So, what do exactly Mediterranean foods consist of? Well, Mediterranean people do not eat red meat in ordinary time and only consume it during holidays. So you can expect that the diet will leave red meat out and only allow you to eat it occasionally. Frequent ingredients are cereals, legumes, vegetables, and olive oil to cook the meals. Dairy products are also consumed less because they are not available much in Mediterranean area.
