Low Sodium Diet Plans

If you are on one of those low sodium diet plans out there, then you better watch out when you are eating out in a restaurant. Menus in restaurants are meant for healthy people who have no particular diet order, so if you are specifically on a diet, in this case a low sodium diet, then you must filter your own menu when you are eating out.

Below here are tips what you can do to maintain your low sodium diet plans when you are eating out.
1. Avoid condiments. Those which are included to condiments are any kind of sauce, ketchup, olives, mustard, pickles, and more other things that contain high level of salt.

If it is too difficult to avoid them at all (it is understood how avoiding these can affect the taste of the food) then at least go very easy on them. Remember that with every swallow you put more sodium into your body.

2. Avoid margarine and butter. Mostly, margarine and butter in restaurants are salted. Salted butter can contain up to 100 mg of sodium per pat. If you feel that you need to add butter, then ask the waiter or waitress whether they have unsalted butter.

3. Avoid floured foods. The natural taste of flour is bland. Therefore, a cook or baker must have put much salt into it to enhance its flavor. However, please take a note that corn tortillas are usually made without salt.

4. Avoid soups and any salad dressings. Again, they need salt to make those waters in soups tastes better. So, you can be sure that those soups contain even higher level of sodium than bread.

5. Avoid beans. Beans contain high level of sodium. So, if there are so many things to avoid, what can you eat? When you are eating out, choose plain foods, vegetables, salad (without dressing), fruity drinks, and some vinegar to lift the salt from your food. Good luck with your low sodium diet plans!
