Low sodium diet plan is rising with more and more people want join the diet. However, it may be tricky to find proper food when you are on a low sodium diet, Low sodium diet is not too common and there is not many restaurants which provide specific low sodium menu.

Moreover, even though some restaurants have started to provide healthy diet menu, most of them are meant for healthy people who do not need to leave anything out of their diet.

So, what you can do if you need to eat out while you are on low sodium diet plan? How do you know what food to avoid? Below are the tips to stay on your low sodium diet even when you are eating out.

1. Say no to margarine and butter. As tempting as they are, margarine and butter are two things you need to avoid in restaurants. The reason is that while you may have unsalted butter at your home, those in restaurants are usually salted. Salted butter contains up to 100mg sodium per pack. If it is necessary, ask the waiter or waitress whether they have unsalted butter.

2. It may be really difficult to avoid things like sauce, olive, ketchup, mustard, or pickles without affecting the food’s taste, but you better stay out from these condiments.

3. You can bet that there is nothing that contains more salt that soup water. Salt makes it taste good. It is as simple as that. So consuming soup does increase your sodium level a lot.

4. Avoid salad dressings. We know how much salt is put into those dressings to enhance its flavor. Moreover, salad dressings also contain fat so it is a wise thing to have your salad plain after all.

So, what can you eat then? Plain foods are mostly safe to eat. Vegetables including salad are great, just remember to leave out the dressings. Fruity drinks are also recommended. You can also consume some vinegar to help your low sodium diet plan.
